Surrounding Lake Pomme De Terre is a peaceful rural area embraced by rolling hills and woods. The lake winds through the natural landscape of the Missouri Ozarks and the Lindley Creek Valley making its way into the headwaters of Truman Lake. The lake was made as part of a flood control project along with Stockton Lake and Truman Lake and even to an extent lake of the Ozarks. All of these lakes are fueled by water that flows from the Osage River. If you are looking for a lake that is close to home and is far less crowded than other lakes in the area then Pomme De Terre is a great option for you and your family. The lake is especially good if you are looking for a more private vacation for your family or if you are a fishermen looking for a lake that is not as highly commercialized and will be a nice relaxing vacation. This doesn’t mean that there are a lack of resorts or places to stay on the lake however, there are actually 18 registered resorts on the lake as well as several other lodges and inns. Pomme De Terre also has 5 full service marinas complete with boat ramps so putting your boat in the water is very straightforward. The lake has a great fishery and has many species of fish including bass, walleye, catfish, crappie and muskie. Fishing on Pomme De Terre is a great experience as you can find a quite cove to fish in private since the lake is not very crowded. If you are only looking to take a day trip to the lake there are still plenty of options available to you. There are two public swimming beaches as well as several small pavilions to eat lunch at. These large picnic shelters area great place to enjoy a family reunion or a day with the family on Lake Pomme De Terre. Another great aspect of Pomme De Terre is that there are over 250 campsites surrounding the lake which provide a great option for a discount lake vacation. Camping can be a great family bonding experience and when you combine a camping trip with the activities available on the lake like waterskiing, boating, fishing, and swimming you have a great vacation.

Pomme de Terre Lake covers 7,820 acres and is ideal for boating, watersports, and fishing. This lake is famous nationwide for its elusive Muskellunge or "the fish of 10,000 casts". For those not wanting to exhaust themselves over the Muskellunge, don't be concerned. Year-round fish stocking allows the lake to have one of the best catch rates in the nation. Lake Pomme De Terre is also great for catching Largemouth Bass, Crappie, and White Bass.
